OEM #17: Bringing US Back To HIM

What All U.S. Christians Are To Do With A New President

Many believe that America is a Christian nation. Yes, this country was for the most part founded upon Judeo-Christian principles, but the nation as a whole was never Christ’s nation, which is what the term “Christian Nation” would have to mean.

Jesus made it clear that His kingdom is not of this world, which means that the only semblance of a Christian nation we have is the body of born-again believers in Jesus Christ across the globe.

THIRTY-THREE YEARS A SLAVE…

Remembering The Race That Ultimately Matters

I once had a rather uncomfortable conversation with a man who really despises all religion but especially Christianity. At one point in our gemini 2 discussion, my antagonist made the false accusation that, “Your God condones slavery!” I couldn’t help but make it clear to him that if God condoned slavery, He would not have boldly declared that whoever He sets free is free indeed (John 8:36). He certainly would not have come to earth in the form of a man in order to die to set captives free (Luke 4:18).

Nevertheless, he confidently directed my attention to the Bible and 1 Peter 2:18-20, which says…

You who are slaves must submit to your masters with all respect. Do what they tell you—not only if they are kind and reasonable, but even if they are cruel. For God is pleased when, conscious of his will, you patiently endure unjust treatment. Of course, you get no credit for being patient if you are beaten for doing wrong. But if you suffer for doing good and endure it patiently, God is pleased with you.

At that point I told him that I must admit, when read without an understanding of the Scriptures, that text would appear to condone slavery. So what was my answer to him? I will use the first point of this writing to explain. Yet I further highlight a very serious conundrum that American Christians need to be vigilant about. There are at least three things surrounding the issue of race and all the talk of protesting America’s alleged ongoing injustices which we need to keep in mind:

OEM #14: Bad Company

Anyone Can Be A Momentary Satan In Your EPIC

There is a woman who is greatly admired and loved by many people. Ask anyone who knows her, and they’ll tell you that she is absolutely the best!OEM_Episode14_Banner

“Anything you need her to do, just ask!” She ran errands for some, she allowed others to stay at her home whenever they needed. She even withdrew money from the bank for others, as she continually put their desires far ahead of her own.

One day, at her request, the pastor of her church went to visit her… in prison!

You see, this lady that everybody so admired was one of the nicest people you could ever meet. In fact, she was so nice that she just couldn’t say “no” to people even though deep down inside she wanted to.

1 Corinthians 15:33 says that bad company corrupts good character. As you live out your EPIC, even your closest relationships must be kept a distant second to your walk with Christ.

Caring for those you love is commanded. But when a relationship demands that you compromise with sin, by contrast, your love for the Lord may even have to appear like hatred for your friend! It is the same reason Jesus told the beloved Peter to “Get behind me Satan…”

OEM #13: Laboring To Lose? Or Working To Win?

Joining Forces With Jesus To Live Out Your EPIC Life

I remember hearing the testimony of a well-known Bible teacher who gave the account of a conversation he had with his daughter who was pregnant and soon to give birth.

OEM_Episode13_Banner

One day, as he arrived at his home, he saw her standing in his driveway crying. Doctors discovered that the baby in her womb was dead. The tragic news was obcasio made worse when she learned that because of complications, the only way to extract the child would be through induced labor. She would have to give birth to death…

OEM #12: The Gravity Of GOD’s Favor

The Un-Defiable Law of God's Love For His True Children

The law of gravity is a settled natural law. What goes up, must come down, right? Yet, because of great minds throughout history, we have found ways to defy this law to the point were we have sent things up into space that are still going up and will never, ever come back down.

The great preacher C.H. Surgeon once shared an insightful rhyme as he explained what I’d like to call “The Un-defiable Law of the Lord and His Children”. This is what is says:

I GIVE YOU MY WORD…

God's Promise To You That Everything Is Going To Be Alright

The world around us is literally in an all-out war of words! Hashtags, campaign slogans, false (and true) accusations, and other slurs are the weapons of choice. And if we will be honest about it, nobody is really winning. This, however, need not be the case for the people of God. You see, we have not just words, but the only word that ultimately matters–God’s word.

If I had to pick a title for Hebrews chapter one, I would choose the NIV’s heading which reads, “God’s Final Word: His Son”. The first three verses of the chapter essentially tell us all we need to know about God’s final word:

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.

Episode 6: Mark Simpson Interview Show

Standing Tall For Christ; No Legs Required

In this episode I interview Mr. Mark Simpson. Though he was born with inoperative, partially formed legs, given up for adoption, suffered depression to the point of attempting suicide, and even had to have both his legs amputated, today this young man stands tall as a man of God who is happily married and who preaches the gospel of Christ everywhere he goes. Truly Mark’s story is the epitome of an EPIC Comeback!

Episode 5: The “C” of Your EPIC Comeback; CHRIST

Making A Break For Christ's Sake

Welcome to Your EPIC Comeback podcast. In this episode I discuss real meaning of “for Christ’s sake,” which of course is not the way most people intend when they flippantly say it. We live in a world full of reason that we need to make a break for Christ’s sake. We can never hope to live out our EPIC if we are too connected with this world.

The Bible has a host of allusions to and illustrations of what it means to break for Christ’s sake. For example, there is Abraham, who was told by God to leave his father’s house and just go to a land that he will be shown along the way; who went, and became father of many nations and father of our faith. There is also Joseph who was sold into slavery by his jealous brothers, who fled from the presence of the lustful wife of his master Potiphar and suffered years of imprisonment for not wanting to commit adultery with her; who yet became second only to Pharaoh and came to the conclusion that the whole reason his brothers sold him into slavery was God’s plan in order to bless and preserve Israel’s posterity. Then, there is Moses and the people of Israel leaving Egypt and crossing the Red Sea and getting to witness the destruction of Pharaoh and his army in the process…

OEM #11: The Resident Great Physician

Not Letting Others' Contagious Lack of Faith In Christ Become Yours

I stumbled across a re-run of the TV show HOUSE where Dr. House was on an international flight back from Singapore when a man sitting next to him began vomiting and developing a fever, headache, stomach pain, and rash.

OEM #10: Onboard With The LORD

Regaining Your Spiritual Moorings In Christ

One of my Twitter followers tweeted something that really struck a chord with me… He was making application of the story in Acts where the apostle Paul was onboard a ship that was sure to be wrecked by a great storm.

By inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Paul warned the men that though the storm was too much to endure, they would surely die if they jumped ship! The last words of the tweet were “Stay on bored with the Lord!”

OEM #9: Best Prayed Plans

Building Your EPIC Life On The Best Foundation

Someone said that a failure to plan is a plan to fail. And unfortunately, I for one, have had more than a few occasions in my life where failing to plan was my undoing.

But I have a little something to add to those words of wisdom. If you’re seeking to live out your enduring purpose in Christ, you will also need to remember that the best laid plans are nothing if they aren’t first and foremost prayed plans.

Enduring To The End In A Troubled World

Welcome to Your EPIC Comeback podcast episode 3. In this show, we will discuss the letter “E” of your EPIC, which is “Endurance”. But first, I’d like to share some insights concerning the state of America in light of the political and social climate today.
