Staying Fixed On The Truest Point Of Reference

A few days ago, I stopped by Bed, Bath & Beyond to do a bit of shopping. As I pulled into a space next to an SUV parked between my car and the store, I was instantly taken by surprise!

How? Well, as I, in one complete motion, placed my car in park, turned off the ignition, and proceeded to open the door, I noticed that my car was drifting backwards!

Instantly (and once again, all in one motion), I slammed my foot on the brake pedal, grabbed the steering wheel with my left hand, and seized the shifter with my right, only to find that it was still in park, my car was off and, well, I wasn’t moving at all! Next thought… (I’m a Neanderthal!)

Everybody is entitled to his or her own opinion I’ll agree. But when it comes to truth, no one has the right to his or her own truth. Truth is either truth, or it is false. No matter how much I contest that up is down, it does not change the truth that up is only and always up.

I thank God that I knew the truth when I got up this morning and got down on my knees to pray and ask the Lord for strength and wisdom to defend the faith against the latest false doctrine being spread by Mr. Rob Bell.

In an Oprah Winfrey “Super Soul Sunday” show, Rob Bell, the former pastor of Mars Hill Bible Church in Michigan, told Oprah that the Church is mere moments away from embracing the homosexual lifestyle. Needless to say, this is as far from the truth as anyone could possibly get, which I’ll explain.

I listened to a clip where Louis Farrakhan recently said that according to Elijah Muhammad, there will never be unity between whites and blacks as long as whites continue in their racist mindset, and as long as blacks continue in our slave mindset.

So if they will not give up their racist thinking, and we will not get out of our slave mentality, then it is best that we separate… Huh? I respect Mr. Farrakhan as a man, but I do not support that incredibly flawed view of America!

I personally think that it is a poor solution based on an angry and self-serving ideology. Let’s all just ignore all of the great strides that have been made by whites and blacks for racial unity and equality, and just re-segregate, and effectively undo all that people like Dr. Martin Luther King (and of course King Jesus) gave their lives for. The Nation of Islam and all nations need Jesus!

If we are not careful America, the Nation of Islam will be like that bully’s accomplice in the playground who gets down on his knees behind an unsuspecting kid so that the bully can shove the kid and make him fall backwards over the unseen accomplice. The kid shoved is America’s Judeo-Christian roots… The Bully is radical Islam (primarily ISIS)… If we are knocked down, it will be our fault for not watching and praying! Once we are on the ground, it will be significantly harder to stand for the biblical truth we once claimed to be our guide. We may in-fact already be there!

Understand that I am not ignorant of the fact that intermingled with the Judeo-Christian values our forefathers built this nation upon, were obvious inconsistencies and sins. Take slavery, for example. Yet, despite the sinful choices of those who founded this country to enslave a people, God’s word shined through and all but conquered slavery here. You see, if God’s word instantly made everything better, then there would be no need to continually preach it or nurture an ongoing relationship with it. There would be no processes of new-birth and spiritual growth.

The problem is that once God’s word helped bring us to the position of the most powerful nation on the face of the earth, we began to think that the power originated with us and we set His word aside instead of continuing to study, learn and grow by it as a nation. We diffused the very power source and polluted it with even more of our own efforts and desires, and now our nation is suffering the consequences of such a grave decision.

Yet, II Timothy 2:19 is just as sure as it was when God first moved Paul to write it for us…

“But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “Those who claim they belong to the Lord must turn away from all wickedness.”

Only the true God could ever conceive of such an awesome plan that would take wicked, defiled sinners such as ourselves and make us His eternal children. And He didn’t stop there. He also promises that not only shall we be with Him forever, but that we shall also be like Him (I John 3:2)…

Now where else have I heard that statement before? Let me see… Oh my goodness! You know where else it was? It was in the Garden of Eden!

In Genesis 3:5 we hear Satan deceptively giving Eve a trumped-up reason why God told them not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. He lies to her, saying, “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Now there is some truth to that statement. You see, God doesn’t want us to know good and evil without His righteousness because that would all but assure us a place in eternal hellfire—like Satan.
