For example, I have one friend there who willingly lived on the streets as a homeless man and ate from restaurant dumpsters for six weeks, just so that as he prepared to devote his life to serving as a missionary, he could develop the heart of Christ for the plight of the least fortunate among us.

Don’t Be Tricked For Treats! You’re Smarter Than That

“Trick or Treat!” will be shouted by millions of American children this month as they get out and about to attend Halloween parties and that beloved night of nights—October 31st once called All Hallows Eve.

But this is not a history lesson about Halloween. Neither is it a sermon to preach against participation in the harmless festivities involved. This is simply an illustration to suggest a far more important thought for those who consider themselves Christians.

Ebola In America?

In light of recent news, I felt it would be a good idea to re-post this from August 2nd this year.

It seems like the beginnings of something out of an 80’s TV movie, but the realization of the Ebola virus is literally about to hit home. Today’s CNN Health headline reads 2 Americans infected with Ebola in Liberia coming to Atlanta hospital.

For many years doctors, missionaries and other workers from America have traveled to and from Africa to provide help and resources to the millions of sick and dying people of impoverished villages. And during those times, they have continually come in contact with people who were sick and who have died of the Ebola virus.

Yet when one hears talk of the Ebola virus coming to America, it can cause the imagination to run wild with thoughts of a tiny rip in protective clothing or a prick in the finger by an infected needle. Or what if we only think we understand the virus enough? What if there is a mutation of the virus once it reaches American soil? These are some of the uneducated concerns that are understandably on people’s minds.
