If I asked you to tell me who Bob Wieland was, I’m sure you wouldn’t be able to without Googling his name. So let me tell you who he is after I explain just why I mention him.

Scripture tells us that we have a spiritual race to run, and that the race is not given to the fastest or the strongest, but to the one who endures to the end (Hebrews 12:1; Ecclesiastes 9:11). This tells me that we are not in a sprint, but we are in an endurance race from here to heaven.

Convert Or Die? Hmm…

Why do jewelers use black velvet to advertise their diamonds? It is because against that dark backdrop, the brilliance of each jewel becomes even more striking. Against the pitch-blackness, each facet comes to life with beautiful light.

It is obvious that there is great darkness spreading everywhere in the world. Yet is it a time for the saints to be fearful? Of course not, for God has not given us the spirit of fear! It is, however, a perfect time for us to be faithful and on-fire like those diamonds. What we as Christians dearly hold to and believe truly stands in increasingly starker contrast to everything else, and we need not be ashamed or afraid.

My Love/Hate Relationship With Church

After a conversation with a good friend this morning about the church, I felt led to share some of my feelings with you on the topic. Let’s face it. We tend to have love/hate relationships with just about everything we really enjoy. Don’t think so?

Okay then, what about the fact that you desperately love the taste of an iced white-chocolate mocha, yet you so hate what it does to your hips? Or what about those wonderful week-long family getaways you so look forward to each summer, yet you just hate having to lug around everything but the kitchen sink because your wife and kids always seem to pack for a world tour?

September 11th And Something Else To Remember

When Scripture says the days are evil, what “days” is it referring to? Surely it spoke to the time in which it was written, but it also, most certainly, speaks of our days–September 11th 2001 and every single one of them!

Every day, somewhere in the world, evil is being plotted, planned, or carried out.  From a Bangkok brothel filled with teen-age girls stolen by human traffickers and prostituted for money, to Bagdad back-rooms where terrorist attacks are being strategized; this world is a wicked place. And why? Because we all are those who were born in sin and shaped in iniquity.
